I woke up to this headline in The Washington Post 11/6/24 - "Trump Triumphs"
so today, I am going to write.
Just now, I dropped the two classes I don’t have time for and don’t care about the cost.
Later, I am going to scrub the bathtub and put away the laundry.
Earlier this morning, I walked the dog two blocks farther than we usually go. We made it to the edge of the college and watched young people practice running.
When I got dressed, I decided I was going to wear black.
Today, I stood in the shower for two minutes longer than usual and was grateful I have the privilege of standing in the shower for as long as I want to.
This afternoon, I am going to go into my “studio” and paint on canvas. I’m not sure what will emerge, but I’m going to let my emotion show itself in color and shape.
Tonight, I am taking myself to the movies (and I’m eating popcorn!).
Today, I am not going to worry about my weight, deadlines, a to-do list or even about tomorrow.
Today, I will not make excuses for self-care, taking time, creating space or for not answering your phone call, text or email immediately.
In mid-mourning, I wrote my high-school girl friends a letter to remind them of our long-held unity, our shared love and God’s Sovereignty (which I need to be reminded of myself today).
Today, I need to grieve, just be and do the things that bring me peace.
